OMA’s Prada Transformer completes first revolution
20 April, 2009

Construction work has finished on the Prada Transformer, a travelling art exhibition structure designed by Rem Koolhaas for fashion behemoth Prada.
The building can rotate so that each side can be used to host a different type of event, including fashion shows, film screenings and art exhibitions.

Structural engineers Eunmin S&D have completed a full rotation test on the transformer in the front yard Gyeonghui Palace in Seoul, where it will host its first exhibition Waist Down - Skirts by Miuccia Prada.

The steel structure is covered in an elastic semi-translucent membrane usually used to store and cover large machinery including airplanes. It is stretched tightly over the frame of the building to emphasise the shapes of the different floor plates on each side of the building.
